Gresik, September 20, 2025 – PT PLN (Persero) officially inaugurated the high-voltage (HV) power supply for PT Berkah Kawasan Manyar Sejahtera (BKMS) with a capacity of 40 MVA in the Java Integrated Industrial and Ports Estate (JIIPE), Gresik, East Java.
This milestone marks a significant step in strengthening power infrastructure and supporting the development of the Gresik Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as a national strategic industrial hub.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the BKMS office, was attended by PLN Executive Vice President of Enterprise Sales and Customer Service Dini Sulistiyawati, PLN East Java Distribution General Manager Ahmad Mustaqir, PLN Java-Bali Transmission General Manager Ika Sudarmaja, PLN West Bali Generation General Manager Fathol Arifin, and the BKMS Board of Directors.
Irfan Johan Kuswayudi, Finance Director of BKMS, stated that the activation of this high-voltage power supply strengthens Gresik SEZ’s position as an integrated industrial area with an investment target of USD 16 billion and potential employment for 200,000 people by 2036.
“Synergy with PLN ensures a reliable energy supply for strategic tenants, including PT Freeport Indonesia’s smelter and glass industries,” he said.
Ahmad Mustaqir, General Manager of PLN East Java Distribution, emphasized that PLN remains committed to maintaining power reliability despite industry challenges.
“BKMS is the only industrial area that continues to grow significantly, even as other major customers reduce capacity. PLN is committed to supporting BKMS’s electricity demand up to 500 MVA, as outlined in the national power plan (RUPTL), ensuring robust infrastructure and optimal customer service,” he explained.
Meanwhile, PLN Executive Vice President Dini Sulistiyawati highlighted that this event coincides with National Customer Day 2025, themed “Great Customers, Friendly Energy.”
“PLN and BKMS are strategic partners. Through this collaboration, we are confident in driving industrialization, accelerating investment, and supporting the transition toward clean energy within Gresik SEZ,” she remarked.
As of September 2025, the total electricity demand fulfilled in Gresik SEZ has reached 239.5 MVA, consisting of 170 MVA for PT Freeport Indonesia, 29.5 MVA for BKMS medium-voltage customers, and an additional 40 MVA for high-voltage customers newly commissioned.
In the coming years, demand is projected to rise to 500 MVA by 2028, in line with the entry of new industrial tenants.
PLN reaffirmed that reliable power supply in Gresik SEZ will play a crucial role in fostering economic growth, enhancing investment competitiveness, and supporting Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission 2060 vision through the provision of clean and sustainable energy.
