Gresik, December 18, 2024 – The JIIPE-Gresik Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has once again garnered international recognition with a visit from H.E. Wang Lutong, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Indonesia. This significant visit highlights China’s dedication to bolstering strategic relations with Indonesia, particularly in the industrial and investment sectors.
Recent data from the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) underscores the depth of this relationship, with China ranking among Indonesia’s largest investors. By the third quarter of 2024, total Chinese investment in Indonesia had reached USD 5.78 billion, solidifying its role as a key economic partner.
East Java, as a vital hub of Indonesia’s economic growth, contributes substantially through its thriving manufacturing, infrastructure, and renewable energy sectors. The JIIPE-Gresik SEZ has emerged as a focal point within this landscape, serving as a catalyst for bilateral economic progress.
During his visit, Ambassador Wang Lutong toured several prominent tenants at JIIPE, including PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Hailiang Nova Material Indonesia, and PT Xinyi Glass Indonesia. The visit coincided with a milestone event: the "Kiln Ignition" ceremony at PT Xinyi Glass Indonesia. This symbolic event marked a significant advancement in high-tech manufacturing and reinforced JIIPE’s position as a premier industrial downstream hub in the region.
PT Xinyi Glass Indonesia unveiled its latest state-of-the-art production line, equipped with cutting-edge technology and a daily melting capacity of 1,100 tons. This advanced facility is designed to produce high-quality float glass sheets, catering to diverse sectors such as construction, automotive, and renewable energy, and addressing the needs of markets across Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
Ambassador Wang Lutong’s visit aligns with his remarks upon assuming his diplomatic post in Indonesia last year, where he emphasized the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between the two nations. His vision of accelerating bilateral cooperation during his tenure reflects the shared commitment to fostering economic ties.
JIIPE’s President Director, Bambang Soetiono, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to providing an integrated industrial ecosystem. “JIIPE offers a comprehensive package that includes a port, high-quality infrastructure, and sustainable energy services to support global investments. This visit underscores the strong confidence placed by the Chinese government and industry leaders in the potential of our region,” he stated.
The JIIPE-Gresik SEZ has solidified its role as a symbol of strategic cooperation between China and Indonesia, addressing the evolving needs of global industrial relocation. With its advanced infrastructure, logistical efficiency, and strategic location, JIIPE has become a preferred choice for Chinese companies seeking to establish a robust production base in Southeast Asia.
This visit marks a significant step forward in the ongoing collaboration between the two nations, further cementing JIIPE’s reputation as a driving force in the region’s industrial and economic development.
